My 2 GB ScanDisk is totally unusable because it is impossible to remove the “amazing” U3 drive. I have tried several uninstallers including the one provided by ScanDisk. None will remove it.
I PLAN TO AVOID ALL SCANDISK PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE OF THIS.

Just to update this I’ve had a 4 gig Cruzer with firmware version 2.20 for a while and had the same issue where the U3 Launchpad worked in XP but not Vista.

I recently updated to U3 Launchpad Version 1.6.1.1 and the U3 now works in both XP and Vista.

Here is what Sandisk answered me

“As of now, Cruzers with U3 is not guaranteed to work on Windows Vista computer. However, Windows Vista is compatible with Cruzers with U3 Launchpad version 1.4.0.2 and higher. All Cruzers with device version 2.17, 2.18, 2.19 and 2.20 will not be Vista compatible even with the new U3 Launchpad. Cruzers with device version 2.15, 2.16 and 2.21 will be able to upgrade to Vista compatibility. Currently, a solution for the Cruzers with incompatible device versions is under development but it will not likely be ready until the third quarter of this year.”

Well, in my case, Vista sees the drive and asks if I want to run launchu3.exe. I tell it I want to run the program, but of course it doesn’t. The drive then opens up as if it were one partition and when I click launchu3, it just blinks and does nothing. I’ve got 1.4, the version supposedly compatible with vista installed, so am wondering if maybe, at least where u3 is concerned, it’s a combination of launchpad version and firmware?

nope. tried everything - nothing works for me. i’m about to set fire/throw away in disgust. have done the un-install/reformat thing - vista still will not let it install (windows cannot find the specified file). rubbish.

I’ve tried out their update for U3 to run on Vista and it seems to work fine. I still don’t like the software enough to bother with it, but at least it works.

On the Firmware, Rene, I don’t think it’s an issue. The USB stick itself works just fine with Vista and always has. It’s only the U3 software they included on the stick that did not work until the 1.4 update.

As I see it, the Sandisk 2GB Titanium requires a specific firmware version in order to work with Windows Vista and in my experience it is not possible to update the firmware. So, if you have firmware version 2.2.0 there is nothing you can do. Can this be right??

Have you tried/seen theese pages?

Almost all USB drives will work with Vista. It’s not the Sandisk drive itself that has trouble. It’s the U3 software that comes with it. In the original post, I have a link for removing that software and reformatting the drive to a single partition that works fine in Vista.

It looks now like U3 may have an update that works with Vista. Check out this page:

Personally, I find U3 just not very useful. But I’m glad they are working on the Vista problem.

I have the 4 gig model and I also have vista ultimate. Vista recognizes the drives just fine. What it doesn’t recognize is the U3 software. They told me in the beginning of May that the new version would be vista compatible and that it would be ready in July. It’s Aug and I still don’t haven’t the firmware upgrade. I do love the software on the u3 and that is why I want to keep it
